Beefsteak tomatoes grow on indeterminate vines which need to be staked to hold the 10 oz to 2 lb tomatoes.  Meaty, juicy, and bright, this makes an excellent slicer.

  • Days to maturity: 80+ days.
  • Growth: 16-32 oz fruit weight.
  • Tip: A good tip I've found is to use old bed sheets (tear into strips) to hold vines to steaks; as string will cut the vine.
  • Plant Spacing:
  • Row: 60"Plant: 18"-36".
  • Planting Depth: 14-1/2 inch.
  • Days to Germination: 6-9 days.

Tomatillos are easy to maintain. They are rangy and should not need to be caged, and do not require rich soil or fertilization. Tomatillos require a long growing season. They can be harvested once the fruits have become plump and the outer husk begins to dry out.

  • Days to maturity: 60-70 days.
  • Growth: 3"-4" tall.
  • Tip: They need at least 8 hours of direct sun daily, and will develop faster with increased exposure. If possible, grow on a slight slope with southern or southeastern exposure.
  • Plant Spacing:
  • Row: 24"-26"
  • Planting Depth: 1/4 inch.
  • Days to Germination: 7-14 days.
  • Days to Harvest: 60-70 days.

Indeterminate.  This variety will produces clusters of tomato over a long season.

  • Days to Germination: 6-9 days.

Rutgers tomatoes are a smaller, globe-shaped variety with a tasty, hearty, and versatile fruit. The plant is an indeterminate grower that typically does not grow higher than around 36".

  • Days to maturity: 70-80 days.
  • Tip: Prune tomatoes to one or two vigorous stems by snapping off "suckers" (stems growing from where leaf stems meet the main stem) when they are 2 to 4 inches long.
